Silico-Manganese (SiMn)

硅锰 · Silicon-Manganese Alloy

Si 14–28% · Mn 60–68% · Replaces FeSi + FeMn in one addition

Silico-manganese delivers silicon and manganese in a single ferroalloy — deoxidising and alloying steel more economically than adding ferrosilicon and ferro-manganese separately. It is one of the most widely consumed alloys in EAF and converter steelmaking.

Product Overview

Silico-manganese (SiMn) is a combined silicon-manganese ferroalloy and one of the highest-volume additions in steelmaking. Because it brings both elements in a single charge, it deoxidises and alloys steel more efficiently than adding ferrosilicon and ferro-manganese separately — saving handling, slag volume and cost.

The silicon is a stronger deoxidiser than manganese, so SiMn gives clean, well-deoxidised steel while supplying the manganese needed for strength, hardenability and sulphur control. Standard grades such as Mn65Si17 suit most carbon and low-alloy steels; it is also the feedstock for producing medium- and low-carbon ferro-manganese.

Global Vista supplies SiMn with stable chemistry and controlled phosphorus from major Chinese producers, with full export documentation and flexible Incoterms to steel mills in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and beyond.

Applications

Carbon & Low-Alloy Steel

Primary combined Si + Mn deoxidation and alloying in EAF and converter steelmaking — the backbone addition for most steel grades.

Rebar & Construction Steel

High-volume, cost-sensitive deoxidation and strengthening for reinforcing bar and structural sections.

Replaces FeSi + FeMn

One alloy delivers both elements, simplifying charging, reducing slag volume and lowering total alloying cost.

Feedstock for MC/LC FeMn

SiMn is the raw material for producing medium- and low-carbon ferro-manganese by silico-thermic refining.

Foundry / Cast Iron

Combined Si and Mn addition for alloyed cast irons and steel castings.

Cored Wire & Briquettes

Powder and briquette forms for precise ladle late-additions and cored-wire treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is silico-manganese used for?

Silico-manganese deoxidises and alloys steel by adding silicon and manganese in one charge. It is used across carbon, low-alloy and construction steels (especially rebar), and as feedstock for medium/low-carbon ferro-manganese.

Why use SiMn instead of separate FeSi and FeMn?

SiMn supplies both silicon and manganese in a single addition, simplifying material handling, reducing slag volume and usually lowering total alloy cost. The silicon also improves deoxidation efficiency.

What is the most common grade?

Mn65Si17 (Mn ~65%, Si ~17%) is the standard global grade for carbon and low-alloy steel. We also supply Mn68Si18 and economy grades like Mn60Si14 for high-volume rebar production.

How is silico-manganese priced?

SiMn pricing tracks manganese ore and energy costs and is quoted per MT against guaranteed Mn and Si content. Send grade, quantity and destination for a current FOB/CIF quote.

Do you control phosphorus content?

Yes. We can supply low-phosphorus SiMn (P ≤ 0.20%) for quality-sensitive grades; standard grades are typically P ≤ 0.35%. Specify your maximum P in the enquiry.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Trial orders from 20 MT. Production and contract volumes 100–1000+ MT for steel mills and traders, with full export documentation.
