Primary application in EAF and BOF steelmaking. Silicon binds dissolved oxygen as SiO₂ that floats to the slag, lowering oxygen content from 600-800 ppm to below 50 ppm.
Typical addition: 2-5 kg FeSi 75 per tonne of steel.
Small additions to molten cast iron promote graphite nucleation — essential for ductile iron and grey iron quality. Often combined with Ba, Sr or Zr modifiers.
Typical addition: 0.1-0.5% by weight of molten iron.
Raw material for ferro-silicon-magnesium (FSM) nodulizer for ductile iron, silicon steel for electrical applications, and aluminium-silicon master alloys for automotive castings.
Quality requirement: low Al and low C grades preferred.
China produces approximately 65% of global ferrosilicon output. Three concentrated regions account for the bulk — each with distinct cost structures and power supply models.
Largest production region. Wuhai and Shizuishan industrial belts. Coal-fired captive power, lowest input cost in China. Our primary sourcing base.
Ordos and Wuhai regions. Cheap coal-fired electricity, similar cost profile to Ningxia. Increasing capacity to offset Ningxia environmental restrictions.
Hydroelectric-powered smelters. Higher per-tonne cost but significantly lower CO₂ footprint — relevant for EU customers under CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).
Indicative 2026 FOB China pricing for container-load orders. Confirmed pricing depends on cargo size, port, payment terms and current power tariff in the producing region.

FeSi 75 contains 74-80% silicon and is the premium grade for steel deoxidation in EAF and converter steelmaking, and for high-quality foundry inoculation. FeSi 72 contains 70-75% silicon and is used for general purpose steelmaking and cost-sensitive applications. The 75 grade delivers more silicon per kilogram added, so total cost per kg-silicon-recovered can be comparable. We have a full comparison guide explaining the addition rate math and use-case selection criteria.
Three main uses: (1) Steel deoxidation in EAF and BOF — silicon binds dissolved oxygen as SiO₂ that floats to the slag; (2) Foundry inoculation — small additions of FeSi or FeSi-Mg to molten cast iron promote graphite nucleation for ductile or grey iron; (3) Production of downstream alloys such as ferro-silicon-magnesium (FSM) for ductile iron, silicon steel for electrical applications, and aluminium-silicon master alloys.
Standard lump 10-50mm and 10-100mm for ladle additions. Briquette form for handling-sensitive workflows. Granular 0-3mm and 0-10mm for cored-wire feeding and continuous casting. Powder grades (0-0.5mm, 0-1mm) for welding rod manufacturing on request. All sizes meet GB/T 2272 Chinese standard.
Three concentrated production regions: Ningxia (largest output, particularly Wuhai and Shizuishan industrial belts), Inner Mongolia (Ordos and Wuhai regions, cheap coal-fired electricity), and Qinghai (hydroelectric-powered smelters with lower carbon footprint). Our sourcing prioritises operating smelters with stable power supply contracts, since FeSi production is highly electricity-intensive.
For cleanliness-sensitive steels — bearing steel, automotive sheet, electrical steel — aluminium from ferrosilicon forms hard Al₂O₃ inclusions that lower fatigue life and surface quality. Standard FeSi has Al up to 1.5-2%. Our low-Al grade caps Al at ≤ 0.5% (and ≤ 0.1% on request) by sourcing from specific smelters with controlled raw material selection.
Yes. Ferro-silicon-magnesium nodulizers (containing 3-10% Mg, plus Ca and rare earths) for ductile iron production are available from our partner smelters. Standard MgFeSi 5-5 (5% Mg, 5% RE) and MgFeSi 6-6 are stocked grades; other ratios produced on order. Inquire with your spec requirement.
For stocked grades: 15-25 days from L/C confirmation to vessel sailing (production scheduling, bagging, transport to port, customs clearance). For non-stocked specs (very low-Al, custom MgFeSi ratios): 30-45 days because smelter campaigns are scheduled monthly.
Tell us your grade (FeSi 75 / FeSi 72), Al tolerance, size and monthly volume. We respond with stock availability and indicative pricing within one business day.
