Mn 65–85% · The most-used manganese alloy in steelmaking

Ferro-manganese is the primary vehicle for adding manganese to steel — a deoxidizer, desulphuriser and strength-giving alloying element. Global Vista supplies high-carbon and medium-carbon FeMn with stable manganese content from major Chinese smelters.

Product Overview

Ferro-manganese (FeMn) is the workhorse manganese alloy of the steel industry. Manganese is added to virtually all steels because it deoxidises the melt, ties up sulphur as manganese sulphide (improving hot-working), and increases hardenability and tensile strength. FeMn is the most economical way to deliver it.

High-carbon FeMn (Mn 65–78%, C ≤ 7.5%) is produced in blast or submerged-arc furnaces and is the standard grade for bulk deoxidation and alloying of carbon steel. Medium-carbon FeMn (Mn 75–85%, C 1–2%) is refined for low-carbon and stainless grades where carbon pick-up must be limited.

For combined silicon-and-manganese addition at lower cost, many mills use silico-manganese together with or instead of FeMn and ferrosilicon. Global Vista supplies FeMn with stable Mn content and full export documentation under standard PRC ferroalloy export procedures.

Applications

Carbon & Low-Alloy Steel

Primary manganese alloying and deoxidation in BOF and EAF steelmaking — improves strength, hardenability and hot-working.

Stainless & Special Steel

Medium-carbon FeMn supplies manganese to stainless and engineering grades without excessive carbon pick-up.

Foundry / Cast Iron

Manganese addition for grey and alloyed cast irons to control structure and mechanical properties.

Desulphurisation

Manganese fixes sulphur as MnS, reducing hot-shortness and improving steel cleanliness.

Cored Wire & Briquettes

FeMn powder for cored-wire ladle treatment and briquettes for precise late additions.

Welding Consumables

Manganese source in certain welding electrode and flux formulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ferro-manganese used for?

Ferro-manganese adds manganese to steel as a deoxidizer, desulphuriser and alloying element. Manganese increases strength and hardenability and ties up sulphur as MnS. Almost all steel grades use some FeMn or silico-manganese.

What is the difference between high-carbon and medium-carbon FeMn?

High-carbon FeMn (Mn 65–78%, C ≤ 7.5%) is the standard, lowest-cost grade for carbon steel. Medium-carbon FeMn (Mn 75–85%, C 1–2%) is refined for low-carbon and stainless steels where carbon must be kept low.

What sizes do you supply?

Standard lump 10–50mm and 10–100mm, plus powder for cored wire and briquettes. Custom sizing available for orders ≥ 100 MT.

How is FeMn priced?

Ferro-manganese pricing tracks manganese ore and energy markets and is quoted per MT against the guaranteed Mn content. Contact us with grade, quantity and destination for a current FOB/CIF quote.

Do you handle export documentation?

Yes. We supply full export documentation under standard PRC ferroalloy export procedures, including COA, packing list and certificate of origin, with USD/EUR/JPY settlement.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Trial orders from 20 MT (one container). Production and contract volumes 100–1000+ MT for steel mills and traders.
