Product Overview

Graphitized Petroleum Coke (GPC) is petroleum-refinery coke that has been calcined at 1200–1400°C and then graphitized at 2500–3000°C to convert its amorphous carbon structure into a crystalline graphite lattice. The graphitization step drives off sulphur, reduces nitrogen, and dramatically improves carbon absorption rate in molten steel.

Global Vista supplies GPC sourced from multiple qualified Chinese graphitization plants. Our team has executed 245 confirmed shipments totalling 76,998 MT (2022–2024) to electrode manufacturers in Japan, leading metallurgical traders in Germany, foundries in Taiwan, and aluminium-grade carbon buyers in Korea and Indonesia. Every shipment is lot-traceable with full Mill Test Certificate (COA), and SGS / Bureau Veritas / Intertek pre-shipment inspection is available on request.

Compared to standard Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC), GPC delivers 90–95% absorption rate vs 75–85% for CPC, and roughly 10–50× lower sulphur content. For low-S steel grades, ductile iron and aluminium anode applications, GPC is the industry-standard choice. Read our full GPC vs CPC comparison →

Fine grade

Ladle injection, late-trim carbon addition, foundry inoculation carriers.

Most common: foundries

1–5mm

Standard grade

EAF charging, ladle additions, ductile iron casting.

Most common: EAF mills

3–8mm

Coarse grade

Cupola furnaces, blast furnace carbon additions.

Most common: cupola

1–8mm

Mixed grade

Cost-effective option when narrow sieve isn't required.

Most common: rebar / merchant bar

Applications

EAF Steelmaking

Primary carbon addition for electric arc furnace operations. 90–95% absorption rate. Especially suited for low-sulphur steel grades (auto, structural, alloy).

Typical addition rate: 4–6 kg per tonne of liquid steel

Ductile Iron Foundries

Low-S GPC is essential for ductile iron — sulphur is the enemy of nodularity. Used as the primary recarburizer in induction-furnace ductile iron production.

Typical addition rate: 8–12 kg per tonne

Aluminium Anode Production

Used as a component in pre-baked carbon anodes for primary aluminium smelters. Low ash and sulphur improve anode life and reduce SO₂ emissions.

Typical addition: 5–15% of anode mix

Battery Anode Precursor

Selected high-purity GPC grades are used as feedstock for lithium-ion battery anode manufacturing (after further purification and shaping).

Spec: Custom grades with N < 100 ppm available
