High-Purity Refractory & Precision Abrasive

White Fused Alumina (WFA)

白刚玉 · White Corundum · White Aluminium Oxide

Al₂O₃ ≥ 99% · Friable · Contamination-free

White fused alumina is produced by fusing high-purity calcined alumina in an electric arc furnace. With Al₂O₃ ≥ 99% and very low soda, it is harder and more friable than brown alumina — delivering a cool, sharp cut and a contamination-free finish for precision and high-purity work.

Product Overview

White fused alumina (WFA), or white corundum, is the high-purity member of the fused-alumina family. Made by fusing pure calcined alumina (rather than bauxite), it contains Al₂O₃ ≥ 99% with very low iron and soda. The crystal is harder and more friable than brown fused alumina, so the grain fractures to expose fresh cutting edges — giving a cool, sharp cut that minimises burn on heat-sensitive workpieces.

That friability and chemical purity make WFA the grain of choice for precision grinding wheels, tool and cutter sharpening, and finishing of hardened steels and superalloys. Its contamination-free profile suits dental, medical, jewellery and optical polishing, while the high Al₂O₃ content supports high-alumina refractory bricks, castables, kiln furniture and technical ceramics.

Global Vista supplies WFA in tight FEPA grit cuts and JIS micro-powder grades, plus refractory sizing, from qualified producers in Henan and Shandong. Every lot ships with a COA and optional third-party inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is white fused alumina used for?

White fused alumina is used for precision grinding wheels, tool sharpening, lapping/honing, dental and medical polishing, high-alumina refractory bricks and castables, and technical ceramics. Its Al₂O₃ ≥ 99% purity and friable grain give a cool, contamination-free cut.

Why is white fused alumina more expensive than brown?

WFA is made from pure calcined alumina rather than bauxite, so the raw material costs more and the product is purer (Al₂O₃ ≥ 99% vs ≥ 95%). It is harder, friable and contamination-free, which is required for precision and medical-grade work.

Do you supply micro-powder grades?

Yes — JIS #240 to #3000 and W63 to W1.5 micro-powder for polishing compounds, lapping and ceramics, with controlled particle-size distribution. COA included.

Is WFA suitable for refractories?

Yes. The high Al₂O₃ content and low fluxing impurities make WFA an excellent aggregate for high-alumina bricks, castables, kiln furniture and saggers operating at high temperature.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Trial orders from 20 MT. Production orders typically 50–500 MT. Custom grit blends and annual contracts available.

Can you match a specific grit standard?

Yes — we supply to FEPA, JIS or ANSI grit standards and can match a reference sample's particle-size distribution for orders ≥ 100 MT.
